Vintage Dance Society Will Discuss and Recreate Some of the Most Popular Dances from the World War I
(HARTFORD, CT)- Marc Casslar and Martha Griffin, members of the Vintage Dance Society of CT's performance arm 'Polite Society, will discuss and recreate some of the most popular dances from the World War I era on June 16, from 12:00 pm-12:45 pm, at the Connecticut State Library. The duo will be performing ragtime dances like the Tango, Waltz, Hesitation, Blues, Foxtrot and Castle Walk. Their presentation will also include a discussion on some of the most popular social dances of the 19th and 20th century, from Regency Jane Austen to the Roaring 20s. The Popular Dances from the World War I Era Program, is part of the State Library and Museum of Connecticut History's Third Thursday Brownbag Lunchtime Speaker series. This series features a variety of speakers on various aspects of Connecticut history. All programs are free and open to the public and attendees should feel free to bring their lunch. The Vintage Dance Society is dedicated to the reconstruction and preservation of the music and dances of the Victorian and Ragtime eras (circa 1840 to 1925). The Society works with theatrical and film production companies, organizations, festivals, museums, etc. to develop theatrical performances (for stage and film), workshops (as an opportunity to learn the dances of these eras) and period social events (as an opportunity to step back in time and enjoy these dances in the setting they originated in).. Periodically, the Society also hosts workshops, formal balls, and informal dances as a chance to meet other vintage dance enthusiasts, and to learn new dances, and to hone one's dance skills. Kandie Carle, a member of The Vintage Dance Society, has been working in the theatre since 1980 as an actress, dancer, and singer throughout the US, and abroad. Her performance resume covers the spectrum from Shakespeare to Musical Comedy. Kandie lives in East Haddam CT, and does a variety of acting and theatre events throughout the area, including vintage dancing demonstrations. The Connecticut State Library is an Executive Branch agency of the State of Connecticut.
